The SADC-GLA was developed by the SADC Groundwater Management Institute, in partnership with the British Geological Survey (BGS) and International Groundwater Resources Assessment Centre (IGRAC). The SADC-GLA was first developed during 2020-2021 and was initially hosted and managed by the BGS. It was fully handed over to SADC-GMI in July 2023.
La SADC-GLA a été développé par l’Institut de la Gestion des Eaux Souterraines de SADC (Groundwater Management Institute SADC-GMI) , en partenariat avec le British Geological Survey (BGS) et l'International Groundwater Resources Assessment Centre (IGRAC).
O SADC-GLA foi desenvolvido pelo Instituto de Gestão de Águas Subterrâneas da SADC, em parceria com o British Geological Survey (BGS) e o International Groundwater Resources Assessment Center (IGRAC).
The GLA contributes to SADC-GMI’s vision of equitable and sustainable use and protection of groundwater in the SADC region by making groundwater information more easily accessible to all relevant stakeholders in the region. It sits alongside the SADC Groundwater Information Portal (SADC-GIP), which provides groundwater data and maps for the region.

SADC-GMI’s core mandate is to promote sustainable groundwater management and provide solutions to groundwater challenges across the SADC region for improved livelihoods and socio-economic development.

The SADC-GMI is a "Centre of Excellence" for groundwater management and groundwater dependent ecosystems in the SADC region working with national, regional and international groundwater initiatives and institutions. The institute is hosted by the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa, on behalf of, and under the strategic guidance of the SADC Secretariat, Directorate of Infrastructure’s Water Division, in Gaborone, Botswana.
SADC-GMI is currently implementing multiple projects in the SADC Region in partnership with key players in the water sector.
Le SADC-GMI est un "Centre d’Excellence" pour la gestion des eaux souterraines et les écosystèmes dépendant des eaux souterraines dans la région de la SADC en collaboration avec des initiatives et des institutions nationales, régionales et internationales sur les eaux souterraines. L’institut est hébergé par l’Université de l’État Libre à Bloemfontein, en Afrique du Sud, au nom et sous la direction stratégique du Secrétariat de la SADC, la Direction de la Division de l’Eau, à Gaborone, Botswana.

O instituto está sediado na Universidade do Estado Livre em Bloemfontein, África do Sul, e age em nome e sob a orientação estratégica do Secretariado da SADC, Diretoria da Divisão de Infraestrutura Hídrica, em Gaborone, Botsuana.
O SADC-GMI executa atualmente vários projetos na Região da SADC, em parceria com os principais interlocutores do setor hídrico.
